Description
No 9 High Street is a mid-18th century house, possibly a refacing of an earlier building. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a stone slate roof and has a west end chimney stack. The house is two storeys high and features a two-window range. Notable architectural details include a moulded plinth, a string course, and a moulded eaves cornice, with raised angle piers that have mouldings that project forward. The windows are twelve-pane sashes set in raised moulded surrounds, with two on the first floor and a pair on the ground floor to the left. There is a six-panel door in a raised moulded surround, topped with a double hood supported by three brackets, which extends over a twelve-pane window that was formerly a door. The interior has not been inspected. Historical evidence suggests that the south side of High Street may have significant structures dating back to the 14th or 15th century, as indicated by discovered cruck-framed houses and the even roof-line.
