Description

The Canal Bridge, located 200 meters west of the road bridge over the Kennet and Avon Canal, was built around 1810 by John Rennie. This accommodation bridge is constructed of dark red brick and features an elliptical arch made of one and a half brick rings. At the base of the parapet, there is a flat band, and the bridge is topped with half round stone copings that end in brick piers. At both ends of the bridge, there are lozenge-shaped cast iron loading prohibition signs on timber posts, installed by the Great Western Railway, which restrict the load to 3/5 tons. Additionally, there is stone revetment along the canal next to the towpath.
