Description
KEEVIL MAIN STREET ST 9257 (north side) 14/130 No 22 (The Old Bakery) GV II
Detached house. Early C17, late C17 and early C19. Square-panelled timber-framing with painted brick nogging, thatched roof, English bond brick; C19 bay with Welsh slate roof, brick stacks to right gable ends of each build. Two-storey, 3-window. Planked door with thatched canopy, 2-light casement to left and two 2-light casements to right, early C19 bay has 16-pane sash to ground and first floors. First floor of C17 build has 2-light casement to left bay and 3-light casement to right-hand raking dormer. Rear has lean-to extension, 16-pane sashes to C19 bay, 4-light attic casement, single-storey wing to right; former bakehouse. Interior has chamfered beams with bar stops, open fireplace with chamfered lintel on stone jambs, planked doors. Bake ovens in rear extension; cast iron, made by F.W. Jones of Fishponds, Bristol. As well as being the village bakery, this house was also used as a Post Office c1900.
