Description

Ansty Water Farmhouse is a detached house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed dressed limestone and features a thatched roof with 20th-century limestone stacks at the gable ends. The building is two stories high with an attic and has a three-window front that was formerly the rear. A 20th-century door has been inserted into what was originally a two-light mullioned window opening, with the original lintel still in place and a flat wooden hood supported by brackets. To the left of this door, there is a two-light and a one-light recessed chamfered mullioned window. On the first floor, there are two two-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows. The roof has coped verges.

The rear, which was originally the front, has a blocked central door with a 20th-century tiled porch and a 20th-century casement window. On either side of this are three-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows with hoodmoulds and a small one-light fire window to the right. The first floor features two three-light mullioned windows and a 20th-century dormer in the roof. The right side of the building has a one-light and a two-light mullioned window with a hoodmould in the attic, while the left side has a two-light mullioned window in the attic.

Inside, there is a chamfered beam with step and run-out stops, as well as an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel featuring run-out stops on stone jambs. Attached to the left of the front is a single-storey range with a planked door and a three-light casement window, also with a thatched roof. The farmhouse was undergoing extensive renovation at the time of the survey in February 1985.
