Description

Nos 80 and 82 High Street are a pair of houses, now functioning as shops, dating from the early to mid 18th century. They are constructed of ashlar stone, with stone tiles on No 80 and Bridgwater tiles on No 82. Each house features a coped north gable and an end wall stack. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and each has a three-window range. They display coved eaves cornices, raised angle strips, and a first-floor dripcourse.

The first floor of each house has three sash windows set in bead-moulded segmental-arched raised surrounds, complete with keystones. No 80 has original 12-pane thick glazing bar sashes, while No 82 features 13-pane sashes. No 80 includes one hipped dormer, whereas No 82 has two original hipped dormers with segmental-arched 9-pane casements and timber moulded eaves.

On the ground floor, No 80 has a 19th-century three-pane shop window to the right, and a six-panel door within a segmental-arched raised surround, topped by a hood on brackets, with a sash window in a plain raised surround to the left. It also has a complete dripcourse and a gabled rear wing. No 82's ground floor is entirely obscured by 20th-century shop fronts, although a fragment of the dripcourse is still visible.
