Description

A row of four almshouse cottages was built around 1830-40. The cottages are constructed of squared rubble stone with low-pitched slate roofs, featuring coped gables and ashlar ridge stacks, along with a south end stack. They are built in a Tudor style, with stone mullion windows incorporating hoodmolds and mullioned canted bays. The cottages are two storeys high. Three gable fronts are visible, each featuring a two-light upper window and a ground-floor canted bay. A connecting range to the left of the centre has a two-light window above and two 20th-century doors within Tudor-arched surrounds, flanking another two-light window, all with hoodmolds. The range to the right has a two-light window above, and below a single-light window over a two-light window with a Tudor-arched doorway containing a plank door, again with a hoodmold. The north end wall features a two-light window above and a Tudor-arched doorway with a single light to the right, both under hoodmolds. There are three rear gables. Originally, all windows had small-paned casements.
