Description
The Crook monument, located in the churchyard about 3 meters east of the north aisle of the Church of St Matthew, is a chest tomb dating from around 1800. It is constructed from ashlar and features a moulded base and cornice. The fluted frieze is adorned with rosettes and is broken forward over a large oval plaque on each side, which is flanked by fruit and foliage drops. The back of the monument is broken over angle piers, with a husk drop on the south side and fluting with paterae on the north side. The north side bears an inscription commemorating Robert Crook, who died in 1801.
