Description
Bourton House is a detached house from the early 19th century, located on the east side of The Common in Shrewton. The building features a rendered chalk and flint exterior with a hipped roof made of Welsh slate. It has an ashlar stack on the left and a brick stack on the right. The house is two stories tall and has a symmetrical front with three windows. The central entrance consists of a four-panelled door with glazed top panels, set in a panelled recess, flanked by 12-pane flush sash windows. On the first floor, there are three 12-pane flush sashes with moulded cases. The deep eaves of the hipped roof add to its architectural character.
On the right side of the house, there are two French windows on the ground floor and two sash windows on the first floor, along with a 20th-century conservatory attached. The left side features one sash window on the first floor. At the rear, there are 20th-century metal casements and one sash window on the first floor. Inside, the house has shutters on the windows, a reeded fireplace surround with rosettes in the room to the right of the door, and a staircase with stick balusters and a moulded handrail.
