Description
Bulford Chapel is an Independent Congregational chapel built in 1823 for a congregation established by Matthew Devenish and Henry Blatch between 1805 and 1806. The chapel is constructed from flint and chalk, rendered and painted with a Tyrolean finish, and has a slate roof. It features three bays and has an added lean-to schoolroom at the north end. The entrance is located at the south end of the east side, within a 20th-century open porch, and consists of a two-centred arched doorcase. The windows are paned cast iron with radial tops set in square-headed openings. Inside, there is a gallery at the south end supported by two cast iron columns, and the front is panelled. The central pulpit is made of pitched pine and has a lined recess behind it. There are also white marble wall tablets commemorating Henry Blatch, who died in 1821, and his wife Sarah Blatch, who died in 1852.
