II

Independent Congregational chapel, 1823, for congregation established by Matthew Devenish (monument in church q.v.) and Henry Blatch, 1805-6. Flint and chalk, rendered and painted with Tyrolean finish. Slate roof. Three bays, with added lean-to containing schoolroom on north end. Entrance in 2-centred arched doorcase at south end of east side, within C20 open porch. Paned cast iron windows incorporating radial top in square headed openings. Interior has gallery at south end supported on 2 cast iron columns. Panelled front. Central pulpit in pitched pine with lined recess to rear. Monuments: White marble wall tablets to (a) Henry Blatch, died 1821, and (b) to Sarah Blatch, died 1852, and husband Henry.
