Description

Lower Green is a farmhouse, dating from the mid-19th century when it was re-faced with red brick, though it incorporates fabric from a house likely built in the 16th century or earlier. The south end of the building reveals a rubble stone wall marking the pitch of the original gable. The roof is low-pitched and slate-covered, with a hipped angle at the north and stacks on the ridge and at the south end. The building is two storeys high, with a long, four-window front. The upper floor has three casement windows and one triple casement with leaded panes. The ground floor features a triple casement, a six-panel door with a hood supported by brackets, a nine-pane window, and two triple casements. All ground-floor window and door openings have cambered heads. Inside, a ground-floor room to the left of the north stack contains a four-panel compartmental ceiling with deep, chamfered beams. A north-end room features a late 17th-century moulded stone fireplace.
