Description
The Old School House is a detached house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of dressed limestone with an asbestos-tiled roof, which was formerly thatched, and features a brick stack at the rear. The building has a gable end facing the road and is two stories high with a three-window south front. To the right, there is a planked door, and the windows include three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements and a two-light casement in a blocked doorway to the left. On the first floor, there are two two-light mullioned casements and a three-light casement.
The right side of the house, which faces the street, has a stone canted bay on the ground floor with a 20-pane fixed window, likely from the 18th century, and a two-light mullioned casement on the first floor. There are also two blocked single-light recessed chamfered casements. The building features coped verges. At the rear, there is a two-light mullioned casement to the left and both single and two-light mullioned casements on the first floor. Attached to the right is a 20th-century two-story extension that includes a reset door with six fielded panels. The interior was not accessible during the survey conducted in January 1986.
