Description

No. 4 High Street is a shop with a house above, dating to around 1840. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a Welsh slate hipped roof and brick stacks. The building is three storeys high and has five windows, arranged in two sections set at a very obtuse angle. A six-panelled door with a transom light and a single-pane sash window are located on the left side, while a 19th-century pilastered shop front is on the right. Access to the flat above the shop is through a doorway in a porch shared with No. 5 High Street. The first floor has five 12-pane sash windows. The second floor has five pivot-hung 6-pane windows. The roof has deep eaves. A brick extension from the late 19th century is located at the rear and contains four-pane sash windows. The interior features four-panelled doors. The building is listed as part of a group of good mid-19th century shops and cottages at the top of High Street.
