Description

The Ridge is an 18th and early 19th century farmhouse. It is built of rubble stone with an imitation stone slate roof, featuring a stack on the ridge and another at the west end. The building is two storeys high, with flush quoins and a four-window front. The left-hand side features a ground floor three-light window with a cyma-moulded flush mullion and a two-light unmoulded mullion window above, separated by a straight joint. A large ashlar canted bay with a hipped roof is to the right, with 12-pane, 16-pane, and 12-pane windows on each floor. To the right of the canted bay is a six-panel door within an open timber porch, an upper 16-pane window, and then a pair of twelve-pane sashes on both floors, all with ashlar flush surrounds. An east addition is present, with two-light mullion windows on each floor. A parallel rear range extends from the main building. In the later 19th century, the farmhouse belonged to the Meredith-Brown family and is mentioned in the diary of Francis Kilvert.
