Description

Firs House is an early 19th-century house, altered around 1900. It is constructed of rubble stone, rendered to the front with flush ashlar dressings, and has a stone slate roof with end stacks. The property is two storeys and has an attic. The front facade features a three-window arrangement. A large, around 1900, ashlar canted bay window is on the left-hand side, with a coped, shouldered gable and mullion windows with eight-pane casements. The original part of the house has a six-panel door with a twelve-pane sash window above, and sixteen-pane sash windows on each floor to the right, set within flush ashlar surrounds. The west end wall displays traces of earlier stonework. An around 1900 addition is present at the east end. A parallel rear range features sixteen-pane sash windows, likely dating slightly later than the front range. Local accounts suggest a 1695 date stone may have been present (though this has not been observed), and alterations were carried out in 1904.
