Description
The Old Rectory is a house dating from the 18th century, built on the site of, and possibly incorporating parts of, a rectory constructed around 1584. It features coursed limestone rubble and a stone slate roof. The main block consists of three bays, with an added forward wing from the later 18th century or early 19th century on the left side. The earlier work includes large ashlar quoins and window jambs with timber lintels. The entrance is located in a two-storey block at the re-entrant angle, which has 12-pane sash windows on the first floor, a wide six-panel door, and a later 20th-century canopy. Timber casement windows are also present. Inside, the property has chamfered ceiling beams and remnants of a malting kiln. A datestone from 1584, along with the initials of Thomas Aubrey, the vicar, is located in the gable, now internal.
