Description

Carpenters is a public house that has been converted into a detached cottage, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of dressed limestone and features tiled, thatched, and Welsh slate roofs, along with brick stacks. The building has an L-plan layout with rear ranges and a gable end facing the road.

The north front is two-storey with two windows. It includes a planked door with a beaded case set in a 20th-century porch, a 2-light casement window to the left, and a top-hung 6-pane window to the right. There is also a 20th-century casement window in the range to the right, while the first floor has two 2-light casements. The rear of the main range features a planked door and casement windows, along with two dormers that have 20th-century casements. The kitchen range, which has a thatched roof, is attached to the rear of the building, and there is a lean-to range with a Welsh slate roof, likely a rebuild of a former two-storey wing.

The left return of the building has 19th-century two-light casement windows, and the kitchen range is built in Flemish bond brick. Inside, there are chamfered and reused beams. The kitchen range is likely a 19th-century infill between two earlier ranges, separated by a yard. The building ceased to operate as the Carpenters Arms in 1953.
