Description

No. 23, Wood Lane is a late 19th-century Gothic Revival lodge, originally serving Paddock’s House (which is not included in the listing). It has been converted into a house. The construction is of squared limestone rubble with a stone slate roof. The roof has exposed rafter ends, bargeboards and moulded brick stacks. The building follows an L-shaped plan, with a stair turret at the southwest angle. This turret has a pyramidal roof topped with a ball finial. The projecting corner of the turret is canted to ground floor level with a small window, and then corbelled out to form a right angle on the first floor. A stone-slated lean-to porch with a painted timber semicircular arch to the northwest, and semicircular arches supported by turned colonnettes to the right, is attached to the southwest wall. The northwest wall features segmental arches to three-light casement windows, along with a gabled bay window. The interior was not inspected.
