Description
The Ballard and Aldridge monuments are two chest tombs located in the churchyard about 4 metres south of the transept of the Church of St James in Bratton. The tombs date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are made of limestone with slate panels.
The western tomb is set on a brick plinth and features plain inscription panels with good lettering, along with a moulded flat top. It commemorates Edith Ballard, who died in 1652, and James Ballard, who died in 1704. The eastern tomb has plain panels and a moulded flat top as well, but its inscriptions are partly illegible, with the name Aldridge incised on the west end panel.
