Description

This is a row of four houses, originally two, built in 1751 for D. Yealfe, a schoolmaster. The houses were extended at each end in the early 19th century. The original structure is made of rubble stone, with squared rubble additions, and features a stone slate roof that has two ridge stacks and stacks at the south end.

The early 19th-century windows throughout have flush ashlar surrounds and 16-pane sashes, with the original sashes still present on No. 89, while the others have been replaced with casements that include top-lights. The buildings are two storeys high. The original range has a window on each side of a six-panel door to No. 88, which is set in a flush moulded surround with a hood supported by brackets. Above the door, there is a moulded stone bracket or plinth that bears the inscription "Danl. Yealfe 1751."

To the right of No. 88, there is a ground floor door leading to Nos. 86 and 87. Adjacent to this is a 19th-century one-window addition with flush quoins. At the left end, No. 89 is a double-fronted addition featuring 16-pane sashes and a six-panel door in a moulded flush surround, also with a hood on brackets.
