Description
Leaden Hall is an important Grade I listed building located at No. 70 in The Close. Originally built by Elias de Dereham, the designer of the Cathedral, it is likely one of the earliest houses in the area. The current structure was constructed to the north in 1717, incorporating some reused old stonework.
The east front features stucco buttresses, a moulded eaves cornice, and a half-hipped old tile roof. It has three windows on the first floor and two on the ground floor, with the right-hand window being a three-light design. All windows are adorned with drip moulds. A projecting central porch, designed in a Gothic style, includes a glazed door from the early 19th century and a central arched fanlight with four arched panes.
The west front is divided into two parts, with the main section being taller. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a moulded cornice and parapet, along with three tall windows. There is also a lower extension and service block to the north, which has three windows as well.
Leaden Hall is part of a remarkable group of listed buildings in The Close.
