Description

Chitterne Lodge is a detached house located on Chitterne Road, dating from the late 17th century, with extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building features a chequered design of flint and brick, topped with a Welsh slate roof and gable end brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan with a gable end facing the road, and is two stories high with an attic and five windows.

The central porch, added in the 19th century, is made of flint and stone and has a Tudor-arched opening with a half-glazed door that includes margin panes. To the right of the porch, there are two 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows with sashes, and to the left, a single-light window with a sash and a 2-light mullioned sash. A string course runs along the sills of the first-floor windows, which consist of four 2-light mullioned sashes that are irregularly spaced.

On the left side, there is a late 18th-century English bond brick bay featuring a half-glazed door and a 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement. The attic has two 2-light casements in 19th-century dormers. An early 19th-century addition on the right includes a tripartite sash window. The left return, facing the road, has a 2-light first-floor casement window in the 18th-century wing, while the rear of this wing features 12-pane sashes set in moulded wooden architraves. At the rear left, there is a late 19th-century brick range with segmental-headed sashes and casements. The interior was not accessible during the survey conducted in March 1987.
