Description
35 and 37 Bedwin Street is a late 18th-century building that has been recased from a house originally built in the 17th century. It is two storeys high with an attic, constructed of red brick. The building features a diamond cut brick cornice that projects, a parapet with stone coping, and an old tile roof with gable ends. There are two dormers and three windows on the first floor, along with a blind window, all of which have later glazing, broad frames, and flat brick arches.
The ground floor includes a late 19th-century shop front with two windows and a glazed and panelled door to the left, which belongs to No 35. To the right of the shop front, the original house door, which has six fielded panels in a plain surround, is still intact. No 37 has one sash window to the right and a door with six flush panels, featuring a reeded architrave surround and a shallow cornice. Inside No 37, there is a stop-chamfered beam, some reset 17th-century panelling, and angle set fireplaces.
The Royal George Public House and Nos 23 to 45 (odd) form a group with this building.
