Description
High Town is an 18th-century house, with a possible earlier main block, refurbished in the early 19th century. It is constructed of chalkstone, flint, and sarsen, with a tiled roof. The house is two storeys and has attics, along with a semi-basement dairy. It has four bays, extended to the left by a narrow bay over a former lean-to, and a rear wing also of four bays, dating back to the 18th century. The house is arranged around a central through-stair hall, with reception rooms on either side. Windows are paired 12-pane sashes set within segmental brick heads. A gabled porch shelters the central front door. The eaves are cogged, with gable stacks and five gabled dormers on the main block. Inside, the left room contains a fireplace with the scratched date I W 1783. The roof features slender cambered collars to the roof trusses.
