Description

West Court Farmhouse, now a hotel, dates from the 15th to 17th centuries. It is constructed of brick, flint, and stone, with a tiled roof. The house comprises a two-storey, two-bay central section and two-bay cross wings with attics. A single-storey lean-to building fills the space between the projecting rear wings. A rear external stack rises from the parlour wing, featuring diagonal shafts. A six-panel door is located to the side of the central block, sheltered by a bracketed hood. Windows include twelve-pane sashes, some tripartite, and arch-headed, paired nine-pane sashes to the central room. A 17th-century gabled dormer sits above the centre of the house. The interior of the central section retains a base cruck truss from the former open hall, with heavy windbraces. A substantial stack is present in the hall and parlour wing, where fireplaces are blocked beneath chamfered timber lintels. The wings are independently framed and likely represent additions to the hall block, incorporating a spherical truss with an arch brace.
