Description

Johnings is a house located on Rivar Road in Shalbourne, dating from the 15th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of brick with some flint and features a thatched roof. It is two stories high with three and a half bays, arranged as 1:1:½:1, and has a 20th-century parallel block attached and offset to the front. The entrance is a timber boarded door situated in the right gable, and there are various timber and leaded casement windows. A blue band runs across the center bay. The roof is half-hipped, with stacks located at the left gable and in the half bay. Inside, the central bay contains two pairs of crucks that are smoke blackened, although the apex is not visible. There are no windbraces present, and the pair to the left of the central bay forms a closed truss.
