Description
Racquets Court, originally a racquets court and later a squash court, features an early 18th-century ashlar facade attached to a 19th-century rendered brick building. The structure has a stone tiled roof and consists of four bays. The facade includes a central doorcase with an ashlar architrave and an eight-panel fielded door, topped with a broken segmental pediment supported by console brackets. A central square urn and finial adorn the top. On either side of the door, there are 15-pane sash windows with plain ashlar surrounds, and above the door is a round-headed opening that currently lacks glazing. The gable is raised at the center and shaped to accommodate a wooden octagonal bell turret, which features turned balusters supporting arches that carry a lead-covered domed roof. Inside, there is a stair and balcony at the entrance end. The building was noted to be in poor condition during the survey in April 1986.
