Description
The Angel Hotel is an 18th-century hostelry located on the northwest side of High Street in Wootton Bassett. The building is constructed of brick and stone, with a recent tiled roof. It has two storeys and a cellar, featuring three structural bays. The left rear wing is made of stone. The front elevation consists of six window bays, with the two left bays being a secondary addition that has flush quoins. There is a brick plinth with diaper Flemish bond and vitrified headers. A pair of 19th-century doors is located over one step in the third bay, framed by a moulded doorcase and a canopy supported by consoles. The windows are 19th-century 12-pane sashes, each with 15-inch rubbed brick lintels. The eaves are moulded and feature dentils. The side elevation has four bays made of stone, with 24-pane sashes. At the rear, there is an assembly room known as the Long Room on the first floor, which also has 24-pane sashes and garaging underneath.
Inside, the front left room features 18th-century bolection moulded panelling, and there is dado panelling on the stair.
