Description

Number 27 is a house built in 1811 as part of a row. It is constructed from rendered limestone rubble with stone dressings, has gable stacks, and a stone slate roof. The house follows a double-depth plan with a rear wing. It has two storeys and a basement, with a three-window front. The symmetrical front features rusticated quoins and coped gables. A mid-20th century porch is located on the left-hand side, shared with the adjacent property at Number 27A (which is not included in this listing). The ground floor has plate-glass casements in raised surrounds, while the first floor has C19 sash windows, with the central window having a round-arched head. The rear of the property includes a purported Castle Well, which is now filled in. According to Moffat, this well was "large, of great depth and the workmanship neatly executed." The interior of the house has not been inspected.
