Description
The Strict Baptist Chapel in Malmesbury is a non-conformist chapel built in 1802 and restored in 1910. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with dressings and features a Welsh slate roof, showcasing a Gothic Revival style. The chapel is a single-storey building with a symmetrical two-window range. Its coped gable includes a portico supported by Tuscan columns on moulded bases, leading to an entablature. Flanking the portico are two-centre arched windows with timber Y-tracery glazing bars. A central plaque on the front is inscribed with "ABBEY ROW BAPTIST CHAPEL/1802/RESTORED 1910." Inside, the chapel retains its original gallery, which includes fittings such as original music stands. There is a 19th-century pulpit within the chapel and an earlier pulpit, likely the original, located in the attached schoolroom.
