Description
29 Abbey Row is a house and shop dating from the early 19th century, featuring a fine mid-19th century shop front. The building is constructed from rendered limestone rubble and has a party wall stack and a stone slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and consists of two storeys, a cellar, and an attic, with a two-window range. The full-width shop front projects over the former front area and includes consoles supporting a fascia and dentil cornice, plate-glass windows, and a recessed doorway with a fanlight. The first floor has horned 2/2-pane sash windows and a gabled casement dormer.
Inside, the ground floor has been altered to create an open space leading to the rear room, which features a left-hand 19th-century fireplace. There is a rear right-hand stair with stick balusters, column newels, and a ramped rail, along with a round-arched rear stair light. The second floor is open to a collar truss roof and has four-panel doors. The cellar is accessed by stone steps and a winding passage, which may relate to a previous house on the site. Historically, this building was formerly paired with No.31.
