Description

This early 19th-century house and shop has an ashlar facade with a slate mansard roof and a stack at the north end. It is two storeys and an attic in height, and features a three-window front. Three 20th-century dormers are present. A moulded cornice is topped by what was formerly a balustraded parapet. The first floor has three plate glass sash windows in architraves; the side windows have cornices, and the central window has a pediment. The ground floor features a fine projecting shop front with fluted Ionic columns framing three-pane shop windows on either side of a recessed central door. A frieze and cornice extend over the shop front, continuing to the right over the door to number 26, with an overlight above. The rear of the building includes three dormers. A rear wing to the left has an 18th-century pair of two-light windows with a cyma moulding on the first floor. The main range to the right also has a similar first-floor window above a 19th-century canted bay window.
