Description
No. 38 High Street is a house from the early 18th century, constructed of painted rubble stone and rendered on the ground floor, topped with a stone tiled roof that features a coped north gable and end wall stacks. The building is two and a half storeys high and has a double front with two coped dormer gables. The first floor and dormer gables have flush cyma-moulded mullion windows, including two 2-light upper windows with hoodmoulds and two 3-light first floor windows that have a continuous dripcourse above. The ground floor showcases an original bolection-moulded doorcase with a hood supported by ornate carved brackets, leading to a 20th-century eight-panel door. On either side of the entrance are matching 3-pane 19th-century shop windows with a cornice strip above. At the rear, there is a wing with a coped east gable. Inside, the ground floor south room features an 18th-century curved alcove with panelled cupboard doors below.
