Description
This is a terrace of four houses located on Hilperton Road, built in the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed from Bath stone and feature a projecting plinth. A moulded string runs along the first-floor level, topped by a moulded cornice and parapet with projecting coping. The roofs are slate.
Each house has two windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor. Ground-floor windows are topped with cornices supported by console brackets. Each has an eight-panel door, with the upper panels glazed, and a rectangular fanlight of a diamond rhomboid pattern in a simple architrave surround, interrupted by projecting springers at the doorhead. All windows are large-paned French casements. Number 36 has a three-panel door in a similar architrave surround, and a three-centred arched stable entry to the right, enclosed by a chamfered, rusticated stone surround with a mask keystone.
The terrace is set back from the road. Rusticated square stone gate piers mark the corner at the west end, although the original iron railings are no longer present. Numbers 36 to 39 together form a notable group.
