Description
Bellefield House is a fine town house first rated in 1795, located on Hilperton Road. The building has been altered with a new roof and the removal of chimney pots. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and has flanking wings that are one storey with a basement, the basement being above ground. The front is made of Bath stone and features a projecting plinth, a string course at ground floor cill level, and another string with a small cornice at the first floor cill level.
The facade is adorned with four Ionic pilasters that rise through the first and second floors, each with moulded bases and caps, and fluted necking, supporting a fluted frieze. The building has a moulded cornice and a blocking course, topped by a hipped machine tile roof with flanking chimneys. There are three ranges of windows on the main facade and one in each wing. The ground floor windows are Palladian and set in arched recesses, all featuring glazing bar sashes.
The central entrance has a modern six-panel door with an arched fanlight that has a radiating and curved pattern with leaf enrichment, situated in a similar arched recess to the Palladian windows. The entrance is approached by a double flight of curved steps with plain wrought iron guard rails and slender baluster standards. The basement windows are lunette type, and the central entrance is located under the steps. Inside, there is contemporary plaster decoration in the entrance hall.
