Description
This is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, constructed of ashlar and coursed rubble stone, with stone-tiled hipped mansard roofs. It has two ashlar chimney stacks on the north ridge and one on the south. The house is two storeys and has an attic, with a five-window frontage to the west and a three-window frontage to the south. The formal west and south frontages are ashlar, featuring a raised plinth, band, moulded cornice, and parapet. They contain twelve-pane sash windows; the west front has five windows, and the south front has three, with a central blank window. Iron flower balconies are present to all upper windows and one ground floor window on the south side. The main entrance is a six-panel door set within a moulded architrave with a pediment supported by brackets, located centrally on the west front. Three dormers face west, and two face south.
The north and east sides are of rubble stone without a parapet. The north side has a three-window range; to the right are twelve-pane sashes, with an upper sash featuring a flower balcony. Centrally are bead-moulded two-light windows within architraves, with cornices and leaded lights. To the left is a hipped roof ashlar addition with a north-facing door and stone steps leading up to it. Dormers are present on the west front’s outer bays, and a small centre dormer is also present. The east side has a projecting wing to the right with an upper twelve-pane sash and a flower balcony above paired twelve-pane sashes. A tower has been added to the angle between the main range and this wing. The main range has a stair-light window and a one-window range to the left, all with twelve-pane sashes. Flush quoins are present.
Inside, a closed string staircase features column newels, turned balusters, and a moulded rail. The front ground floor rooms have plain moulded cornices and bead-moulded fireplaces.
