Description
The archway located on the trackway to the southwest of Old Wardour is an early 19th-century structure made of dressed limestone. It features a round-arched gateway that is moulded and rebated, with the Arundell crest positioned above it and a hollow-chamfered pediment overhead. There are buttresses on either side of the arch. The south side of the archway displays relief-carved Arundell heraldic arms above the arch. Attached walls with stepped coping are present on the west side, while the east side shows the foundations of a demolished lodge. The archway is complemented by cast-iron double gates. Historian J. Rutter noted that this structure was newly built in 1822.
