Description
Ark Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse situated near Tisbury, within the grounds of Wardour Park. It is constructed with dressed limestone to the ground floor, English bond brick to the first floor, and has a Welsh slate roof. The design follows an L-shaped plan. The front facade, which faces a fish pond, has four windows and a three-bay portico on the left side. The portico features vermiculated block rustication to the pilasters and the voussoirs of the round arched openings to the front and sides, a modillioned cornice, and a pediment. To the right of the portico is a 20th-century conservatory with glazed doors. The first floor has an oculus to the left and four two-light casement windows to the right. The rear of the farmhouse includes a round-arched doorway with vermiculated block rustication and a mask keystone, along with double half-glazed doors. There are three two-light casement windows on the ground floor and five two-light casements and one three-light casement window on the first floor. A wing to the left has a half-glazed door and two and three-light casement windows. The interior was inaccessible at the time of survey in January 1986. Local research suggests that the portico and round-arched doorway may have originated from a Bath House that Richard Woods constructed on the pond around 1766/7.
