Description

The summer house, now an annexe to Old Wardour House, dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a tiled roof and features two storeys and four windows with sash frames. A 20th-century panelled door is located in a round-arched surround with a keystone and imposts to the left of centre. To the right of the door are two 9-pane fixed leaded round-arched windows, and one is to the left, all featuring keystones and imposts in their architraves, with small leaded windows in between. There is a plat band above the keystones. The first floor has four 9-pane sashes in plain architraves with a sill band, and a moulded cornice above a plain blocking course. The left side of the building has a large square opening, a plat band, and one 9-pane sash in a plain architrave on the first floor, along with a blocking course and a gable with coping. The right side features a 20th-century panelled door. The interior has not been inspected. Attached to the right is the shell of a two-storey 17th-century stable, which has no roof and unglazed mullioned windows. This summer house is part of a series of buildings built against the south wall of Old Wardour Castle's bailey and may have been the 'Banqueting House' constructed in 1687.
