Description

Laurel Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th to 18th century, constructed of rubble stone with stone tiled roofs and ashlar stacks. It has an L-shaped layout with later additions. The north front is divided into two sections. The left side features an east end stack and has heavy cornerstones. It contains early 19th century windows with glazing bars; a 12-pane window is located in the dormer gable, and a 9-pane window to the right, on both floors. A door with an overlight is situated to the left. The rear elevation retains original 2-light ovolo-moulded mullion windows on both floors, blocked above, with casement windows below and a hood mould over. The right side of the north front has a single window range with a first-floor 12-pane thick glazing bar sash window in an earlier 18th century raised moulded surround, and a ground-floor 16-pane sash window, also from the early 19th century. Converted outbuildings attached to the west are not considered to be of special architectural or historic interest. A rear wing has a ridge stack and a west front featuring two coped dormer gables with 2-light flush mullion windows above a 3-light ground-floor window to the right, all with cyma-moulded surrounds and hood moulds; a later long casement pair is on the left. A central 19th-century 6-panel door is set in a moulded doorcase, and is accessed via a stone porch with a stone tiled roof. A further range runs east from the rear of the wing, parallel to the front range, and includes a one-window range with dormer gables to the north and south and a ridge stack that was originally extended to the east around 1975.
