Description
Pickwick Lodge Farm Cottages is a house with origins in the 17th century, rebuilt in the mid to late 18th century and extended in the 19th century. It is constructed from rubble stone and features stone-tiled roofs. The building is one and a half storeys tall and has a 'T' plan layout, with the original range running east-west and 19th-century wings added to each side at the eastern end.
The original range has a mansard roof, coped gables, and end stacks. The south front includes two dormers and a projecting porch made of ashlar, which has a pediment with a door in a raised bead-moulded surround to the right. There is a Bath Fire plaque No 789 in the pediment, followed by two 12-pane sash windows and one pair of 12-pane sashes, all within raised bead-moulded surrounds and featuring flat cornices. A door is located to the left.
The west end wall has a similar arrangement with two windows and a door, which has a hood supported by brackets. The rear north wall features three dormers and various two-light mullion windows, which are irregularly spaced. The east front is partly roughcast and includes a three-light ovolo-moulded mullion window on each floor of the end wall of the main range, along with a twelve-pane sash on the south return. The south wing, which is entirely from the 19th century, has a two-storey, two-window range and a south stack. The north wing, which may be the original rear wing that has been remodelled, features a ridge stack, a 20th-century eaves-breaking dormer, and 20th-century openings on the ground floor.
