Description

Mermaid Cottage is a late medieval and 17th-century cottage that was restored in the early 20th century. It is constructed from rubble stone and features a stone-tiled roof with eaves that were renewed in the early 20th century. The cottage has one and a half storeys.

On the north side, there is a small dormer positioned to the right and a central small 4-light timber-mullion window, which may date back to the medieval period or the 16th century. To the right, there is a door with a roof that extends over a 20th-century lean-to porch. To the left, there is a narrow 2-light timber mullion window, which may be a renewed version of an original.

The south side features two coped dormer gables, two upper 3-light windows, and a ground floor with a 3-light window, a 4-light window, and a single light window, all of which have ovolo moulding and hoodmoulds. The east end has a stone-tiled porch with a small arched light in the east end wall. The east gable is roughcast and displays a relief of a mermaid, possibly made of plaster, at the apex.
