Description

West End House is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century or earlier, which was rebuilt in the 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and features slate roofs, with end stacks and a ridge stack on the main range. The building is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout.

The south front has three windows, with brick jambs and timber lintels. On the first floor, there is a pair of casement windows and two triple casements. The ground floor features a pair of casement windows, a door, a triple casement, and a 6-pane window. The wing has a two-window west side, with a pair of casement windows and a triple casement above, along with a 6-panel door that has a hood supported by brackets and paired 12-pane sashes below. The end wall includes a 19th-century sash window on the first floor and a canted bay window made of ashlar dating from around 1840 on the ground floor, which has a low slate roof, plate glass sashes on the sides, and a French window at the front.

Inside, the ground floor of the main range features chamfered and stopped spine beams in the left and centre rooms, with a timber-frame partition between them. The right room has a deep chamfered spine beam and wall beam that dates to around 1600 or earlier. The roofs throughout the building are from the late 18th or 19th century.
