Description
Forest Gate Farmhouse and Barn is a farmhouse built around 1840, constructed of red brick with a slate eaves roof, which is attached to a barn dating from the early 19th century made of ironstone with ashlar dressings and a hipped stone slate roof. The farmhouse is two stories tall and features a three-window range with rebuilt end stacks. It has 12-pane sash windows with cambered heads and a central door with a fanlight, set in a gabled brick and timber porch. A rear wing connects the farmhouse to the barn.
The barn has flush quoins and a large opening on the south side with a cambered brick head. There are casement pairs at the upper level on each side, set in flush ashlar surrounds, and ground floor doors on both sides. Ventilation loops are located flanking the upper windows and to the left of the ground floor doors. The interior of the barn is brick-lined and features a seven-bay double purlin roof with king-post and angle-strut trusses. On the north side, there is a brick head for a north cart-entry inside, but the exterior remains unbroken stone.
