Description
The Lysley Arms is an inn located on the south side of London Road (A4) in Pewsham, dating from the later 18th century. The building is constructed of painted rubble stone and features stone slate roofs. It has a main range with a mansard roof and end stacks, standing two storeys tall with an attic that includes two hipped dormers. The façade has three windows, with pairs of casements above and 3-light flush cyma moulded stone mullion windows below, situated on either side of a projecting 19th-century gabled stone porch.
To the left of the main range is a taller structure built of painted ashlar, featuring a mansard roof from around 1800. This section has a single window range with coped gables, a rear wall stack, and a first-floor band that wraps around a full-height canted bay, which contains 8-12-8 pane sashes on each floor. There is a blocked door to the right, framed in a raised moulded surround with a hood supported by brackets. A 20th-century extension is located beyond this section.
To the right, there is another painted rubble stone range with an end gable, featuring a one-window range of 2-light bead-moulded stone mullion windows. The building has flush quoins at the northern angles and a stack at the north end. Behind the main range, there is a stone slated lean-to. Historically, this inn was known as The Swan until the early 20th century and served as a stop on the Bath road.
