Description

Well House is a circular well-house built around 1900. It features six timber posts with arched braces that support a conical roof made of stone slates topped with a ball finial. The well-head is made of circular pennant stone, surrounded by radiating pennant stone paving. There is a top plate with a painted inscription that reads: "Here quench your thirst and mark in me an emblem of true charity who while my bounty bestow am neither heard nor seen to flow. Repaid by fresh supplies from heaven for every cup of water given." This well-house is identical to others established by the Poynder family of Hartham Park at Biddestone, Colerne, and Hilmarton in Wiltshire.
