Description

A row of four houses dating from the 18th century, with elements built on an earlier 17th-century core, is constructed of red brick, painted on numbers 3 and 4, and set in Seend High Street. Numbers 1 and 2 have Bridgwater clay tiles, while numbers 3 and 4 have slate roofs. The houses are two storeys high. Numbers 1 and 2 represent a refronting of a timber-framed 17th-century structure. A wall-face stack is located between the houses, and a west end stack is also present. The facades feature an ashlar plinth, a string course, and flush cyma-moulded mullion windows. Number 1 has a two-light window above a six-panel door recessed within a raised moulded doorcase with a hood on brackets. Number 2 has a two-light window above a six-panel door recessed within a raised beaded doorcase with a hood on brackets. A fragment of timber framing is visible on the west end wall. Number 3, positioned to the left, has a shallower roof pitch, end stacks, and a three-window range of flush cyma-moulded mullion windows with a dripcourse over the ground floor. It has three-light windows on either side, leaded with a centre sash, a two-light leaded window to the first floor centre, and a six-panel door within a flush moulded surround with a hood on brackets. Rusticated quoins are located at the left end. Number 4, added later, has a coped west gable, flush left end quoins, a string course, and two-light mullion windows on each floor. It features a door recessed within a wide raised moulded surround with a hood on brackets. The end wall contains a two-light window to the attic and the main floors.
