Description

This is an early 19th-century building on St Edmund’s Church Street. It comprises Nos 2 to 6, and includes the entrance to No 51 Winchester Street. The building is three storeys high and constructed of red brick, with a low-pitched slate roof and flat eaves. The front facade is symmetrical, with a three-window arrangement. It features recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars. A prominent canted bay window is centrally placed on the first floor, with strip pilasters between the lights, a moulded cornice, and a panelled apron. The ground floor has three windows and four doors, set within lined reveals. The right-hand door provides access to No 51 Winchester Street. The doors are six-panelled, with rectangular marginal glazed fanlights and plain reveals. They are set within doorcases consisting of panelled pilasters with pointed-arch tops, a plain frieze, and moulded cornice hoods. The windows are topped by flat, rubbed brick arches.

The building forms a group with Nos 2 to 10 (even) and Nos 16 to 24 (even) of St Edmund's Church Street, along with the Methodist Church. It also forms a group with Nos 51 to 55 (odd) Winchester Street.
