Description
Cliffansty House is an early 19th-century building, likely built on an earlier core. It is distinguished by its ashlar front, constructed from small blocks, and a slate hipped roof with red brick stacks. The house is two stories high and has a three-window facade featuring 16-pane sash windows. The central entrance has a six-panel door surmounted by a fanlight, both set within a heavy ashlar Roman Doric porch supported by two columns and pilaster responds. A raised plinth is present. The west end wall is of rubble stone and stands above a high red brick basement floor, featuring two 16-pane sash windows. A lower, parallel rear wing features a hipped roof and walls constructed of a combination of rubble and red brick, with 16-pane sash windows on each floor. Attached to the southwest angle of the house is a low iron railing extending approximately 40 meters, running along a coped red brick retaining wall. The gate is flanked by two ashlar piers with cornices.
