Description

The cottages at 2 and 3 Bences Lane date to the late 17th and 18th centuries, built of rubble stone with stone tiled roofs. Number 2 is a two-story cottage with a coped gable and stack at its north end. It has two first-floor windows, each with two recessed, ovolo-moulded lights. The ground floor has a two-light recessed chamfered mullion window with a hoodmould to the right, a door, and a single-light window with a hoodmould to the left. Flush quoins are visible at the north-west angle, and on the south-west side, the ground floor is slightly set back to the right of the first-floor angle. Number 3 is a single-story, attic cottage with a stack at its south end. The apparent 18th-century central front door is set within a raised bead-moulded surround, with casement windows on either side.
