Description
Prince Hill is a house built in 1912, featuring roughcast walls with painted timber details, tall hipped roofs covered in plain tiles, and tall red brick chimneys. The house is two storeys high and designed in an early 18th century style, with a sprawling layout that may include parts of an earlier building. The main facades face north and south.
The north front showcases a five-window hipped centerpiece with a projecting hipped bay and a columned porch. It has eight-pane sash windows on either side and a twelve-pane sash above the central door, which is styled in the early 18th century and features an overlight. The ground floor is adorned with applied Ionic pilasters on either side of the central bay, extending into a deep open porch supported by four Ionic columns, topped with a curved roof and a segmental pediment. The first floor includes panelled angle piers at the center bay and the outer corners.
The west front is irregular, connecting the ends of the main ranges, while the south front has a five-window arrangement with twelve-pane sashes and a tripartite sash in the fourth bay, along with a central half-glazed door that has an early 18th century style segmental hood on console brackets. Inside, the house features panelled doors and fittings in the early 18th century style, along with a fine staircase. Overall, Prince Hill is an unusually elaborate neo-Georgian house from the early 20th century, showcasing high-quality detailing.
